Numerous castles and palaces line the more than 1000 km of hiking trails in the region. A visit to Liestal, the capital of the Baselbiet, with its picturesque old town is also worthwhile. Anyone strolling through Dornach will be surprised by the unique buildings, such as the reinforced concrete building of the Second Goetheanum, the centre of the globally active General Anthroposophical Society.
